Neuromodulators use a botulinum toxin-A base that temporarily paralyzes the muscles to prevent muscle contractions and the resulting fine lines and wrinkles. At Amavi Aesthetic Surgery, we use two types of FDA-approved neuromodulators that are safe for use among most adult patients.
Botox is the most popular neuromodulator with a wide variety of uses. It is used for hyperhidrosis treatment and can treat TMJ, lower or upper limb spasticity, and more. For aesthetic purposes, Botox can be used to treat the following areas of the face:
Botox results take about one week to develop and last 3-4 months.
Dysport is another modulator that is most commonly used to treat:
Dysport results take about 2-3 days to develop and last 3-4 months.
Almost everyone who is a healthy adult wanting to smooth fine lines and wrinkles is a candidate for injectable treatment. Neuromodulators can be used alone or in combination with dermal fillers for severe frown lines and deeper facial wrinkles.
One of the biggest risks is an allergic reaction so an allergy test can be conducted before your appointment. You should also speak with Dr. Rau or another member of the Amavi team about muscle or nerve conditions that could be affected by the injectable formula. Certain over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements can have an adverse reaction with botulinum toxin products. Female patients should wait to receive treatment if they are pregnant or nursing.
Recovery time after an injectable procedure is minimal and many patients return to work immediately after their appointment. Mild bruising and swelling around the injection site are common but will heal within a few days, revealing a more youthful appearance and glowing smooth skin.
