Mommy Makeover Procedure

A mommy makeover is highly customizable and includes a combination of cosmetic procedures to restore the breasts, abdomen, and genitalia. Pregnancy and childbirth affect every woman differently so Dr. Rau will help you develop a combination of mommy makeover procedures that directly meet your needs.

Breast Procedures

After pregnancy and breastfeeding, your breasts can increase or decrease in size. Breastfeeding can also cause sagginess or the look of flattened breasts. Breast augmentation with breast implants will restore this lost volume and create larger breasts with implants. A breast lift can be performed alone or in combination with a breast augmentation to lift sagging breasts for a naturally youthful appearance that mimics your pre-baby body. If your breasts have grown and are causing back and neck pain, breast reduction surgery can help.

Abdominal Procedures

Tummy tucks and/or liposuction are commonly performed during a mommy makeover. Pregnancy causes the skin to stretch significantly and it’s hard for that skin to “bounce back.” You might also develop pockets of stubborn fat that are difficult to treat with diet and exercise alone. Liposuction permanently removes unwanted fat, and a tummy tuck removes excess skin and strengthens the abdominal muscles that may have been damaged during childbirth. Liposuction can also be used to redefine your buttocks and thighs; these are two other common areas where pregnant women gain weight.

An umbilicoplasty can also be performed to restore the natural appearance of your belly button and its pre-pregnancy shape. After pregnancy, your belly button might look stretched or protruding if the tissues in the area have fused during the healing process after childbirth. This procedure is often incorporated with a tummy tuck to reposition the belly button and tighten loose abdominal skin.

Vaginal Rejuvenation

If you have a natural birth, the labia can become damaged or enlarged. This may make you feel self-conscious, especially in intimate settings. Labiaplasty removes excess tissue from the labia to restore the appearance of your genitalia. Vaginal rejuvenation can also tighten and repair the vaginal canal and vulva, improving libido and preventing painful vaginal dryness.

Who is a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Mothers who are fully recovered from childbirth and are not planning for future pregnancies are great candidates for a mommy makeover. Waiting until you are done having children ensures the best results since future pregnancies can reverse the effects of your surgery

Results and Recovery

Depending on which procedures you receive, your recovery time will vary. After most mommy makeovers, patients should expect to rest and avoid strenuous activity for at least a few weeks since there will be some swelling, bruising, and soreness. Swelling can take up to 6 months to completely go away. Make sure you have someone who can help care for you and your child during this recovery period.
