Lip Augmentation Procedure

Lip augmentation or lip fillers can augment the shape and size of your lips with a few quick injections of Juvéderm or Restylane – two popular hyaluronic acid dermal fillers offered at Amavi Aesthetic Surgery. Before your injections, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the lips so that the procedure is comfortable. A fine needle will be used to inject the filler of your choice into the vermillion border around your lips, the center of your upper lip (Cupid’s bow, and around the corners of your mouth. Injections can be made in the upper and lower lips, depending on each patient’s needs and desired look. The entire procedure only takes 30-45 minutes.

Who is a Candidate for Lip Augmentation?

Non-surgical lip augmentation with lip injections is a great solution for anyone over the age of 21 wanting fuller lips, whether it is because your lips have changed due to aging, or you were born with thin lips or asymmetrical lips. As you age and the skin loses its elasticity, the philtrum between the nose and upper may stretch out, creating a larger distance between the mouth and nose. Lip augmentation shortens this difference and creates the appearance of fuller lips.

Results and Recovery

Lip augmentation is a minimally invasive procedure so there is very little recovery time. Your lips may be slightly swollen, sensitive, and bruised but swelling often goes down in about 48 hours. Swelling and discomfort can be alleviated with a cold compress applied for 10 minutes at a time. While the small injection sites heal, you should avoid wearing lipstick and lip balm for 24 hours and try not to touch or pucker your lips. Exercise should also be avoided for 24 hours.

It can take a few days or up to a week for the filler to settle and the swelling to completely go down. After this time, you will see the beautiful results of your newly enhanced lips with fuller lip volume and a proportioned lip shape. Lip fillers typically last for 12-18 months and your results can be maintained with additional treatment sessions.
